We live in the dark times. I need not elaborate the multitudes of crisis that fill the globe today. Sadly many of us are being taken away by the evil in many forms. But no matter how tempting is it, we must not shrink back. The temptation is real, a truth that we cannot deny. Everyday we are constantly faced with numerous temptation but the ultimate choice lies with us. We can either give in to temptation or stand strong with strength and courage fighting it. We should keep in mind that temptation is not inevitable, we can fight it with a FAITHFUL and WILLING heart.
Haven’t we heard that even Jesus was tempted in the desert by Satan? But he fought it. His flesh was weak but his spirit was willing. And he said boldly, “Away from me, Satan!” (Mathew 4:10). Fighting temptation is no less a battle which is not only spiritual but also physical and emotional. One should note that it is not a sin to be tempted. We all are tempted at various levels and to various extends.
Here Are Six Ways to Fight Temptation:
1.Read Your Bible
Having knowledge of the Word of God and utilizing it as a weapon against Satan, believing that the ultimate victory will be yours. This helps alot. Once a person starts reading the Holy Bible daily can realize his spirit getting stronger day by day.
2. Positive Behavior
God is never tired of forgiving. Always remember that your sins don’t define you. Ask for forgiveness and He will forgive you. “And their sins and inequities I will remember no more.” (Hebrews 10:7) Do a fresh beginning, go for confessions and focus on being more obedient to God.
3. Occupy Yourself
We all have heard the phrase “Idle mind is devil’s workshop”. Therefore, we should at all times try to keep ourselves busy physically and mentally which things which brings honor to God , focusing on the good things we are doing which will eventually make us better in that field.
Meditation can be done in various forms. Talking to Jesus in silence is also meditation. However the Rosary has been a great source of strength to people and saints.
“You shall obtain all you ask of me by the recitation of the Rosary.” (Our Lady to Blessed Alan de la Roche)
“Never will anyone who says his Rosary everyday be led astray. This is a statement that I would gladly sign with my blood.” (St. Louis de Montfort)
Praying Rosary with love and compassion will definitely help you attain peace of mind which will in turn help you in the fight against Satan.
5. Have a Mentor
Sin & Temptation is not your battle alone! You have the Holy Spirit within you who counsels you and guides you to bear good fruit. But God has also given us Godly people who stands along side us, to be our mentor in living life God’s way. This person maybe your parent or sibling, a wise friend, your youth leader or animator, or even the priest you go to confession to. “Where there is no guidance the people fall, But in abundance of counselors there is victory.” (Proverbs 11:14)
6. Be Persistent
Unfortunately, temptation doesn’t just go away when you choose to resist it. Sometimes the decision to fight it makes it more stronger temporarily but do not quit. It takes time for temptations to fade. Even if you suffer set backs or relapses. The more persistently you fight, the better chance you will have of beating your temptations.
Scripture tells us that God will not let us to be tempted beyond what we can bear. But when we are tempted He will also provide a way out (1 Corinthians 10:13). Temptation becomes sin when we dwell and act on it. You can’t control what thoughts come into your mind, but you can control what stays there.
God bless you all.
