#NEWS: KOLKATA DEANERY YOUTH DAY 2015

“For the kingdom of God is not in matter of talk but power”. – 1 Corinthians 4:20

With the theme as POWER the ICYM Kolkata Deanery Youth Day started with the mass celebrated by Fr. Vincent Lobo, the Dean of Kolkata and Fr. Sebastian of Ignatius Church Kidderpore. Around 140 catholic youths from the city of Kolkata had gathered at St. Paul’s Boarding and Day school, Kiddepore to take part in the event. However Fr. Gnana Peppin could not attend the event due to his ill heath (please uphold him in prayer). The day was filled with excitement, curiosity and divine presence as speakers from various fields of life shared their knowledge with the youth. Fr. Lord Winner gave a talk on “Youth in the Society”, Mr. Ritesh Osta and Mr. Vishal Tupper on “Youth in the industrial sector” and Anjalina Brahmin (JTM) shared a personal testimony of  life changing encounter with Jesus. The audience had a great time interacting with the speakers and sharing their opinions on the topics.

The event gained pace and the youths grew excited as the competitions started. The singing competition was won by St. Ignatius church, Kidderpore as Christ the King church, park circus and Infant Jesus Church, Behala stood as the 1st and 2nd runners up respectively. The decision was made under the supervision of esteemed judges such as Mrs. Betty Matthews of St. James school, Mr. Peter Gomes of the Messengers Band and Mr. Francis Beck of CCCRS.

The DEXCO team was also introduced along with the Diocesan Lady-Animator Sr. Lidwin.

The skit competition was judged by Fr. Devraj and Angelina Mantosh and it was won by Infant Jesus Church, Behala and Christ the King Church and Infant Jesus stood as 2nd and 3rd. The prizes were distributed by Fr. Gregory Monteiro, the Regional Youth Director. The new rules included made the competition even more exciting. The event ended up well as the audience danced to the tracks played on the console by DJ Sonu Minz. Among the other attendees were Ms. Anancia, the Regional Youth Animator and the Theology of the Body team members.

ICYM Kolkata would especially like to thank the Local Organizing Committee whose support made this event possible. The DEXCO team along with the leadership of Sr. Lidwin put up a great work to make the day memorable. With joyful hearts and excited faces the youths departed awaiting for the next ICYM Kolkata event.
